So it’s Christmas Eve day and it’s about nine thirty in the morning. My husband is home as he’s taken the week off work. My boys are hanging around too, mostly because I keep feeding them… they’re like vultures and won’t seem to go away. Yeah, gotta work on that….
Anyway, the house phone rings and my husband answers it. He listens for a few moments as I move about in the kitchen and then I hear words that capture my attention. “What do you want with my wife?”
Now immediately I move closer to figure out what is going on. My hubby listens again for a few moments and then says, “hold on”. He covers the phone and gives me this odd look, the kind of look that tells you he’s wondering why the heck some man other than himself is calling me.
“His name is Joel and he’s trying to find a copy of Cheyenne somewhere in town.” Then a smile broadens my hubbies face as he’s been in the position before. He knows the sound of a desperate soul on the other side and hands me the phone.
I speak with Joel and he tells me he’s spent the last few days desperately trying to find a copy of Cheyenne for his wife Alli. I smile and am elated that he actually called, but first I have to know how he got my number. “How’d you find me?” I ask. His reply, “I looked you up in the white pages and took a chance.”
I’m thrilled, not that someone could find my data so easily, but for the fact that Joel was determined enough to make his wife happy that he called me and made me feel like a million bucks!
Needless to say Joel arrived at my home fifteen minutes later and bought a signed copy for his wife Alli. And needless to say I turned and smiled at my husband after Joel departed and said, “How cool is that?” My husbands reply, “Yeah.” He rolls his eyes. “This is going to take some getting used to.”
I know Joel and Alli, and I have to say that your husband didn't have anything to be worried about…..as long as you had a copy of your book!! LOL!!! J/K!
What a fun story to add to others of this great time in your life! I'm so glad that Allie had the idea to read this book at our book club! I loved it, and I am spreading the word! Good luck in all you do and I hope to see you very soon!
Thanks Robin! It was just such a funny comment from my hubby that I couldn't help but share it. I'm also hoping to have more funny stories about what's going on! It's been so great knowing people really love Cheyenne as much as I loved writing it.
And my hat off to Joel for going the extra mile in securing a book for Alli! Either that or he might not have had a home to come home to!
See? I always said you'd be famous. I wonder if my other predictions will come true? (Cheyenne, the movie…)
Wonderful story Lisa – and I agree, it's funny, cute and cool at the same time 🙂
Thanks Rose!
Do you know what jumped out at me?
"Lisa still has a house phone…?"
And this thought led to, "Does she write on a typewriter, too?" 😉
Keep the posts coming!
LOL! I know, I still have a house phone but really it's only because I got locked into a stupid deal with my phone company to combine the internet and phone together for like 5 years!! It's all good though as I have to have a lan line to fax for clients. Thanks for pointing that out Lucas!
No typewriter–ugh! MacBook Pro!
